By Eric Granstrom

For FishiingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Our radio friend Brent Rhodes texted me late last week, asking about fishing at Alta Lake. A text message to former WDFW Officer Jim Brown got me the phone number for District 6 fish biologist Ryan Fortier. Ryan provided me with pertinent information. Ryan said twice so far this spring he's conducted fish surveys of Alta Lake using a gill net in shallow water. Neither test showed much success. He said he had local reports that Alta Lake froze really hard this winter. He also had a report of seeing 60 dead Kokanee floating on Alta Lake once the ice melted. Fortier said this is disappointing news considering how well the Kokanee fishing was at Alta just a season ago. He said Fish and Wildlife plant Kokanee fry in lakes Lake Alta, which take at least four years for them to grow and become catchable size. Fortier also said the rainbow fishing has not proved very fruitful at Alta either. On the other hand, Fortier reports that Kokanee fishing is still going well at both Conconully Lake and Conconully Reservoir. He also said Patterson Lake continues to produce a steady Kokanee catch. Until next time, Good Fishing!
