By Dave Graybill

Austin Moser had an empty seat on his boat last Thursday, so I joined his clients Patrick Linkenheimer, Paul Woods and Brad Barger. The trio had traveled from Oregon to experience the fishing on Lake Roosevelt. They came prepared for the cold weather, and we were all pleasantly surprised. The day was bright and sunny, so even though the temperature was not far above freezing it felt much warmer. All three remarked at how stunningly beautiful the scenery was on Lake Roosevelt. We launched at Spring Canyon and ran up to Plum Point. We trolled here for quite a while and only got a couple of rainbow for our efforts. Since it was such a calm day Austin decided to run further up lake and we trolled below the cliffs up to the bay below Keller. We tucked into the Keller launch and saw that it would be ice-free enough to launch here, and then ran to the mouth of the San Poil. This is where we had the best action. Trolling above the mouth we released several wild, redband rainbow and keeper, clipped fish. The smallest fish was 17 inches and the biggest probably 22 inches. We got them right on the surface with side planers.
