I was wondering why the fishing from shore at Spring Canyon on Lake Roosevelt has been less than spectacular this year. I haven’t had the same kind of luck than I have had in the past. My brother Rick showed me the graph of where the water level is this year comparted to previous years and it is much higher than normal. I will use this as my excuse for poor luck. The reservoir should be dropping fast soon, and I am certain it will help. My brother in law Tom Verschueren fished from Spring Canyon from the shore recently, and only got one fish. It was a big one. He figured it measured 24 inches. There are more kokanee showing up in catches on Lake Roosevelt this year compared to last. Rick said he got a report of kokanee measuring 22 inches. The fishing for both kokanee and rainbow should improve as the reservoir continues to drop. I found out that the Patterson Lake Perch Pull had 26 anglers show up for the event. People came from all over the state to participate. A 14-year old angler won the biggest perch, most perch, biggest overall catch and even the “other gamefish” category. He got a kokanee that weighed over a pound-and-half!
