Has everyone had enough of winter? I think so. This time of year most all of us are ready for spring. The weather forecasts are agreeing with us, too. When temperatures reach into the 50s it makes spring fever even more contagious. Pretty soon the shores of our year-round lakes will be clear of snow and the water will be clear of ice. One of the events that kick off fishing in our region every spring is the annual Tagged Trout Derby in the Quincy Wildlife Area on Burke Lake. For years now the Quincy Valley Tourism Association and the Quincy Valley Chamber have held this event, and it always gets a big turn out. This year should be particularly popular with the weather we have had. There was a year when the event had to be postponed due to ice on the lake. I will soon have more details on this year’s event. I expect that they will have a lot of cash and prizes to hand out and maybe even a new boat and motor as they have the past couple of years. So mark your calendars now for the start of our spring fishing on Burke Lake in March.
