By Dave Graybill

Last Monday my brother Rick and I fished Lake Roosevelt for kokanee and all we caught were rainbow trout. We fished Swawilla Basin and Plum Point and decided that on Tuesday we would start at Keller. From the Keller launch we headed down lake to the first bend and fished off the landmark known at the Camel Rock. I was fishing Kokabow squidders and blades on two rods again and Rick tried some various plugs on the other side of the boat. When we saw fish on the finder we got bites, but they were rainbow so we moved up lake and spent some time trolling above the San Poil Arm. We didn’t have any luck here so we ran back down lake to a spot known as the Pipe Pile Hole, which is opposite the cliffs. We didn’t find any fish or get any bites until we moved over to the cliffs. Here we got some more fish but they were rainbow. Once again most of the fish hit the Kokabow gear. Both Rick and I know that there are big kokanee to be caught on Lake Roosevelt, even this early in the season. We just didn’t run into any. Maybe next time.
