If you want to get some walleye I would suggest Banks Lake. Fishing is slow right now at Potholes. I spent a day with Shelby Ross, who grew up fishing Potholes, and has been guiding here for years, and it was very tough. Ross warned me that we probably wouldn’t get many fish, as the walleye are right in the middle of spawning. He was right. We got one fish in Lind Coulee, one fish in the Dunes and another one in Crab Creek. I missed a couple of fish, and the one that I landed in Crab Creek was a 23-inch male that we released. Ross got the first fish on a Slow Death Hook that he had altered to improve the spin. I got the other fish and the bites on a Dutch Fork Custom Lures Blue Tiger Turtle Back blade, either above a Super Slow Death Hook or tied with a worm harness. The catching was poor but the fishing was great. I had a terrific day visiting with Ross, and he showed me places in Potholes that I had never been. I would give Potholes a week or two for the walleye to finish their spawning activities, and then look out, it looks like there will be another great season here.
