There is very good news for anglers who like to fish Jameson Lake for trout and for salmon fishing on Lake Chelan. There were reports of delaying the planting of trout at Jameson Lake due to concerns about water quality, but the lake is in the best condition in years, so a plant is being made just prior to the general trout season opener. According to sources at the Department of Fish and Wildlife, Jameson will receive 40,000 catchable size rainbow, and at least 1,500 triploid rainbow to kick the season off. Along with the holdover population in the lake, Jameson should be terrific on the opening weekend. The triploid Chinook program on Lake Chelan is showing good results. So many of these fish are being taken incidentally while anglers are fishing for mackinaw that a catch and keep season has been opened on Chelan. Anglers are now allowed to keep one Chinook, over 15 inches per day on the lake. This is very good news and an indication of the success of the planting of triploid Chinook. The popular kokanee fishery on Lake Chelan is about to take off, too, and I’ll keep you posted.
