By Dave Graybill

There was a huge traffic jam that I had to fight through to get home to Leavenworth last Sunday afternoon. A steady stream of campers, trailers and other RVs were all trying to get home from their weekend of fishing at the Seep Lakes, south of Moses Lake. The great weather had a lot to do with the great turnout last weekend, and there was some good fishing to make the trip worthwhile. Some of the top lakes were Heart, Windmill and Canal. These lakes are always popular on the opener, particularly because they offer great camping right on their shores. People can just about step out of their tents and cast to the lakes. There were limit catches on these lakes, and the rainbow were mostly a healthy 11 to 13 inches. Some other lakes that are expected to produce nicely this spring, with even larger trout are Corral and Blythe, which are just across the road from Mar Don Resort on Potholes Reservoir. These lakes were rehabbed two years ago and should really hit their stride this season. Most of these lakes are primarily fished from shore and most of the trout are taken with slip-sinker rigged Power Bait.
