For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Some people are just plain lucky. Others create their own luck. I went hunting completely blind last weekend to the Teanaway GMU outside of Cle Elum. I didn't take the time to scout, so I was going on the hopes of lucking into a cow elk or 3-point mule deer I could draw on with my Clearwater bow. I was really leaning heavily on luck to have any kind of chance. Luck was NOT on my side. Don't get me wrong, it was a great campout. It was also fantastic to get out in the wilds and breathe in the fresh air and stretch the legs climbing up and down ridgelines and canyons in elk country. The country I hunted was pure elk country and they have plenty of groceries in the cupboard when and if they ever get there. Not even the rangeland cattle I ran into had feasted on the forage available in many spots. I did happen across a bear track in my endeavors, but not one, single elk track. There was a little deer sign, but nothing to get excited about. Scouting is imperative in creating luck. Until next time, Good Hunting!
