By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Every year or so on either Memorial Day or Labor Day weekend, we head to some friend's property in southwest Washington. It's right along the middle fork of the Satsop River in Mason County between Shelton and Matlock. Each time, we passed a little body of water called Lake Nahwatzel and I finally brought a rod and some tackle to try to fish it. If you head to our Facebook page you'll see a video I took of this gorgeous body of water. It's planted each spring with large rainbow trout that average about a pound apiece. There's a very nice public launch on the south side of the lake along the West Shelton Matlock Road with a paved launch, limited parking and a pit toilet. There's a small area west of the launch where you can fish from shore, which is a stone's throw away from the Lake Nahwatzel Resort and Restaurant. This area has quite the history of logging in Washington's hayday and I was even treated to a steam-powered vessel plying the waters as I fished. I didn't catch anything but thoroughly enjoyed the scenery. Until next time, Good Fishing!
