Saturday, June 12th and Sunday, June 13th fall on the Washington Department of Fishing Wildlife’s Free Fishing Weekend that is celebrated each year. During this weekend people will be able to fish without a license on the state’s rivers, lakes, and marine waters. The Free Fishing Weekend is even more special as people do not need a Discover Pass or Vehicle Access Pass to park their vehicle at State Park or lands managed by the Washington Department of Natural Resources and WDFW. Those who fish the state’s lakes over the Free Fishing Weekend can also participate in the WDFW’s 2021 Trout Fishing Derby and redeem tags from trout caught over the weekend. To get the details on the Trout Fishing Derby, visit the WDFW web site. Hundreds of businesses throughout the state contribute to the derby and prizes are worth thousands of dollars. If you plan to fish this weekend be sure to pick up a copy of the Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet. The pamphlet will let you will know the daily limit of what you may catch and any special rules that apply to the specific water that you intend to fish. So, get out there and have some fun!

Greg McEwen poses with his daughter Cami at Fish Lake near Lake Wenatchee. Cami is holding up the first fish she ever caught, many years ago. Hopefully families with have a similar experience over the Free Fishing Weekend.
