For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. It's so hot, the fish don't even want to bite. That was the overwhelming feeling I had while bobbing around Billy Clapp Lake Saturday. As we approached last weekend and the climbing mercury, Marion said we should take the camper and boat somewhere on the water. I suggested Billy Clapp and we were off Friday afternoon. We got to the launch in time to fish about an hour around the basalt island. I had a good report that kokanee had been biting and orange was the color. Despite trout surfacing everywhere and fish on the screen, nothing would bite. We were out on the water fishing again early Saturday morning. Again, fish were surfacing all over. We trolled on the outside of the island, again targeting kokanee. I could see on the screen that fish were checking our gear but nothing would bite. I finally changed up and trolled a Rapala under the surface and had a beauty rainbow into the net until the lure hooked on the web and the fish flipped free. We had one more walleye on a Wedding Ring and worm but nothing else. It was hot, just not the bite. Until next time, Good Fishing!
