By Dave Graybill

I have another trip planned to Rufus Woods. This time my friends and I will using our fly rods to catch triploids. I have caught many triploids over the years on flies, but mostly at the bottom end of the reservoir. As one of my buddies mentioned, we will be using similar gear to what we usually used when we fished the Methow River for steelhead in the fall and winter. Once again, we will not be having a steelhead season on the upper Columbia River, and replacing our need to fly fish for steelhead, we will be going after triploids. He said that these big trout are often the size of the steelhead we caught on the Methow. So, here’s the set up we are going to use. We all pretty much agree that we want to use 8-weight fly rods and sink tip lines. The heavier rods will allow us to cast these heavy lines with greater ease, and also bring the fish to the boat without over-stressing them. I sent them the photo of the flies I am going take along that is shown with my report on my Facebook Page, at FishingMagician.com. This could be really fun!
