For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. As expected, Governor Jay Inslee has extended the "Stay Home, Stay Health" order through May 4th. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was quick to follow, saying hunting and fishing would also be closed until May 4th. That means the spring turkey season that was to open a week from tomorrow on April 15th has been delayed at least until May 4th. It also extends the closure of all recreational fishing and shellfishing across Washington until at least May 4th. That means the lowland lake opener, the most popular recreational activity used by the public, will be delayed at least a week. It was supposed to open April 25th. The ripple effect of the pandemic is now creating an economic hardship for businesses that depend on the recreational tourism dollars. Especially hard-hit will be those resorts on waterways that see a huge influx of business the last weekend of April. I'm thinking of Conconully, the Potholes and Jameson Lake. I'm sure reservation cancellations are stacking up at these and similar locations. A silver lining you ask? Fishing should be really good when we finally get to out again. Until next time, Stay Healthy!
