Oh boy, oh boy. It’s time for my annual trek to the Columbia River Gorge for Fish Camp. Every year I am invited, along with a bunch of other outdoor writers and broadcasters to Peach Beach on the Columbia near Biggs. We are joined by several companies that make products that we outdoors people use. It could be boating products, fishing products or other equipment. We meet each morning for breakfast and then divide up among guide boats and head out fishing. We could be fishing for salmon, walleye, sturgeon or smallmouth bass. It all depends on what you like to do and who’s available to take you out. I have had some excellent salmon fishing experiences here, but I often opt to go fishing for smallmouth bass. I used to think that topwater lures only worked in the mornings or evenings but have learned that smallmouth will hit these all day long. I have seen a lot of water on the Gorge, and it all holds lots of smallmouth, and lots of big ones. More than anything though, the event is like a reunion with folks that I often just see once a year. It is great fun.
