By Dave Graybill

I was in East Wenatchee recently and saw a report that said that walleye were being caught on Potholes Reservoir, with slow presentations. Something just didn’t sound right about this report, so I called Shelby Ross. Ross is a guide on Potholes Reservoir and lives just up the hill. He said that if there were walleye being caught, it must be from shore. Potholes was still 90 percent frozen over when I talked to Shelby last week. There was some open water where Frenchman Wasteway enters the reservoir and off the State Park. There was still 13 inches of ice at the docks at Mar Don Resort, though. He also mentioned that people were still fishing on the ice at Moses Lake. Our recent warm weather and even rain will really help melt the ice on all of our local lakes and reservoirs, but it will still be a while before people can launch a boat and troll. I want to remind people that the annual Trout Derby on Burke Lake is now scheduled for Saturday, April 6th. Everyone is keeping their fingers crossed that the ice will be off Burke by then. To get all the details about this popular derby, just click on the “Something Fishy” logo on my web site.
