By Dave Graybill

Well, Austin Moser and I finally got up to Rufus Woods Reservoir. We had been trying for a long time, but sport shows and meetings delayed the trip. His friend Ryan Janke from Moses Lake joined us. It turned out to be a cold and windy day. We made a couple of stops from the launch at Seatons Grove, which is six miles from the bridge at Coulee Dam. None of the stops produced any fish, and we fished for a long time on the Nespelem Bar before we got into the walleye. There was a sweet spot on the bar where the fish were hanging out and we tried a variety of different jigs without success. I decided to tie on a blade bait and after about twenty casts hookeded a nice 19-inch walleye. Austin had Ryan try one of his favorite watermelon-colored grubs and he caught two on it. Austin put one of these grubs on his rod and hooked a dandy. It turned out to a 25 ½-incher that he released. Austin did a great job putting us on the fish despite a wind that pushed us around. We had little current and we our ended our day very pleased with our catch.
