By Dave Graybill

Once again I started the summer run salmon season with Shane Magnuson. He and I have celebrated the salmon season together on July 1st for at least 12 years. For many years we fished below Wanapum Dam, and in recent years have moved up river to Chelan Falls. There have many different people in the boat over those years, but we always had a great time and caught our share of salmon and even sockeye when they were there. This year we met at Beebe Park and launched just before 5 a.m. We had two nice kings in the boat and had lost one by 5:30. There is usually a good morning bite at Chelan Falls and this is an indication of how good it was this past Sunday. We drove up to Wells Dam and fished for a couple of hours, too. We released a big king, I landed one small king and we also landed three sockeye. Shane is very excited about this year’s season. We are just getting the leading edge of the run, so we have lots of good salmon fishing ahead of us this year. Better get geared up and get out there!
