By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Marion had never caught a salmon before, so when I heard about this year's sockeye returns, I knew I had to get her out. So after work last Thursday, we launched at the Orondo Street launch in Wenatchee and ran upriver to fish below Rocky Reach Dam. The popular area to fish is on the west side of the river, just below the dam, along the rocky shoreline. It's a tight area and with 17 boats in there, we were just about at capacity. On the run up there, my steering bar that connects my main motor to my trolling motor came apart, so I had to hand tiller the trolling motor. I put one king rod on the downrigger with some tuna stuffed in a Brad's Superbait cut plug. I put two other rods out for sockeye with double ought Les Davis Herring Dodgers behind an ounce banana weight. The terminal tackle on each with between 9 and 14-inch leaders were pink hoochies behind an orange smile blade and two, pink Gamakatsu octopus hooks. We were lucky enough to boat three nice sockeye and lost two. And after tasting them, Marion is hooked! Until next time, Good Fishing!
