There is a meeting coming up in East Wenatchee that is of particular interest to those who are fishing guides in our region. The results of advisory committee meetings regarding guide pressure on the Olympic Peninsula and the Klickitat rivers prompted the meetings and the Legislature directed the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to hold public meetings on these recommendations. The meeting will be held at the Douglas County PUD Main Auditorium in East Wenatchee on Monday, November 20th, and will begin at 6 p.m. Topics to be discussed are: How to improve the fishing experience and equitable opportunity for both guided and non-guided river anglers. How to manage fishing pressure to protect wild steelhead and other species. How to ensure that recreational fish guiding remains a sustainable economic contributor to local economies. Also, the public comment period for review of proposed changes to simplify the fishing regulations has been extended through November 30th. The changes come as a result of public comments gathered at the Wild Futures meetings throughout the state.
