Good news for fans of spring salmon fishing is that the Entiat River is open to fishing again this year. There are enough spring salmon returning to allow for fishing and if anglers remember, last year’s fishing was pretty good. River flows may make things interesting, but these conditions existed when the river opened in ’09, and angler scored in spite of it. Fishing on the Icicle River for spring salmon is very, very good right now. Limits of these highly prized fish are being taken during morning and afternoon floats. Salmon fishing on Lake Chelan isn’t too bad either. I was able to fish Chelan for an afternoon late last week and wound up with three nice lake trout and a king weighed well over 12 pounds, maybe 15, it was heavy bodied. I suspect that this particular fish was one of the triploid Chinook that was released into the lake in the last couple of years. It put up a spectacular fight, jumping and tearing off line. It was quite a thrill for Shawn Johnston of Winthrop who brought the fish to the net. Don’t forget to get your Derby tickets for the Pikeminnow Derby. It’s coming up this weekend.
