There is another great event for families coming up soon. Mark your calendars for Saturday and Sunday June 20th and 21st. This the weekend of the 17th Annual East Wenatchee Rotary Club Pikeminnow Derby, and if you haven’t been involved in this one, this would be a good year to give it a try. The idea of the derby is to remove as many pikeminnows from the Columbia River as possible. These fish are ravenous scavengers of baby steelhead and salmon, and the derby always does a great job of removing hundreds of pounds of these guys from the system every year. They offer good incentives to do it, too. There is over $10,000 in cash and prized to be awarded at this year’s derby, including a top prize of a new boat, motor and trailer. You can pick up a brochure that details the way the derby works at Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee, and at Bi-Mart and Bob Feil Boats and Motors in East Wenatchee. You can also learn about the derby by logging onto eastwenatcheerotaryclub@hotmai.com. This is a great way to spend the weekend, and who knows, your family may be fishing in a brand new boat, or at least taking home some cash and other prizes—just for going fishing!
