By Dave Graybill

I had a chance to visit Lake Roosevelt, out of the Spokane River Arm, recently, and it was a glimpse at an amazing recreational wonderland. I have been on Roosevelt before. Mostly out of Spring Canyon, with some runs up as far as Keller Ferry. This was different. My friend Gordon Steinmetz and his wife Marge, former owners of Big Wally’s in Coulee City, have purchased a houseboat that is moored at Two Rivers Marina, and they treated me to a day of what their life is like now. Boy, am I jealous. Just a few steps away from the slip that holds their 65-foot house boat, Gordon keeps a 21-foot Lund. We jumped into the Lund so he could show me some of his favorite walleye holes and check out a couple of new ones. There is no end to the possible walleye fishing ground here, and the lake is absolutely loaded with them. As we traveled up and down the reservoir we saw group after group of people boat camping or day tripping on the beaches and points. There are 130 miles of the reservoir to “get lost” in, and I can’t wait to get back up there and find a beach for myself. Fishing ain’t bad either.
