If you haven’t got your ticket for the Budweiser Lowrance King Salmon Derby in Brewster, better hurry. The derby kicks off this Friday. Don’t miss your shot at the over $15,000 in cash and prizes. Even if you don’t finish in the money, there will be a ton of prizes given away through raffles and this derby is a guaranteed good time. Just log onto www.brewstersalmonderby.com for details. If you’re looking for a way to beat the heat right now, this is what I do. I head for the Icicle River outside of Leavenworth in the afternoon and early evening. The temperature is at least ten degrees cooler up this scenic valley. I wade the stream in my shorts and wading shoes and cast to the small rainbow that are plentiful in the stream. It is a great way to cool down and wind down at the end of the day. Some other stream options are the Entiat River above Entiat Falls, the Methow River and the White River at Lake Wenatchee. You don’t need any fancy gear, just a love for the way these little trout attack a fly or spinner. My wife and I like to take a picnic dinner along and enjoy it at streamside.
