By Dave Graybill

It has been a couple of years, but I finally made it back to the upper Entiat River to fish my favorite stretch, and it didn’t disappoint me. The stream bed has changed a little bit, but there were still plenty of small rainbow, cutthroat and brook trout waiting for me. My wife Eileen and I sampled the waters for about a half mile below the Spruce Grove campground. The water is down and easy wading, and it didn’t seem to matter what fly I tossed out there, the trout pounced on it. I want to remind anglers that the Entiat River is open to fish only above the falls which is thirty two miles from where you pull off the main highway that takes you to Chelan. It’s just another two miles from the falls to the Spruce Grove campground, where it’s easy to walk into the water. I have also bushwhacked my way down to the stream below here and found some excellent fishing water, but my wife gives me funny looks when I suggest trying this. I have drug her through too many log falls and thickets, only to find a parking area of trails a short distance away.
