By Dave Graybill

The sockeye salmon season on Lake Wenatchee was once again a huge success. An estimated 200 boats turned out for the mid-week opener, and it appeared that most all anglers got fish. Those who want to get in on the action are advised to watch the Department of Fish and Wildlife web site closely. There may be an interruption to the season, while more fish make their way from the Columbia River to Lake Wenatchee. The break in the season may be brief as thousands of sockeye have yet to make their appearance in Lake Wenatchee. Anglers are reminded that a salmon punch card is required for this fishery, as is a knotless net and barbless hooks. Also, be sure to punch your card immediately after landing a fish. Don’t wait until the gear is set for the next one. Those who enjoy fishing our small local streams for small rainbow, cutthroat and brook trout should get at it. Water conditions are perfect for this activity and fishing on the Icicle is terrific. I am going to try to get above the falls on the Entiat River very soon. I really enjoy catching the mix of trout available on this river, along with the scenic beauty.
