The second rod permit is now valid on lakes throughout Washington State, with some restrictions, now but the sporting good stores that I surveyed reported that few anglers are taking advantage of it. There may be more activity on second rod permit sales as we move into fall and trout fishing gets good on area lakes. Speaking of good fishing, I just a report on Buffalo Lake, which is northwest of Grand Coulee, on the Colville Reservation. This is one of my wife and I’s favorite lakes, and this would be an excellent time to visit it. The kokanee are running to 14 inches and limits are easy to come by. There are triploid rainbow and holdover rainbow to 6 pounds being taken while kokanee fishing, too. The crawdads are abundant again this year, which is another attraction on Buffalo. One of the other opportunities here is the largemouth bass fishing, which can be great. Just down the hill from Buffalo is Rebecca and the largemouth bass fishing on this small lake can be outstanding also. Another report I got was on the Okanogan River and Whitestone Lake. The Okanogan is excellent for smallmouth and some big largemouth are coming from Whitestone.
