On Sunday, when my wife and I were on our way to fish the White River, above Lake Wenatchee, we noticed a campfire burning, with no one around. We pulled in and two young me approached us and asked if the fire was ours. We both agreed that someone had left this fire burning. I had a bucket in my rig, so I walked to the river and we all made sure that the fire was drowned. When I mentioned this to our business manager at work, who is an active hiker, she told me that she and her husband had put out three unattended campfires already this year! I was shocked. It is unimaginable to us that anyone would walk away from a campfire that could possibly flare up, and I know of four this season. Please, please keep a lookout for these fires. Apparently there are an amazing number of folks who just don’t know what they’re doing, or just don’t care. On a positive note, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has announced that fishing for Chinook salmon on Lake Chelan will continue, until further notice. Congrats to all those involved in the recovery effort.
