If there is one body of water in North Central Washington that an angler can count to always deliver consistent action, it would have to be Rufus Woods Reservoir. I took Bob Goyt and his Robert to Rufus recently and it didn’t take long to get a strike. I threw a Super Rooster Tail out behind the boat while I was rigging up, and it got whacked right away. We weren’t far from the dock when it hit. I spend some time cruising the shoreline just up from the launch for a while, but decided to make the run to the first pump. Another boat arrived at about the same time, and hooked a fish on their first cast. We got into fish pretty quickly, too. The fish were jumping and rolling constantly, and although we caught mostly smaller fish, Bob senior lost a dandy next to the boat. Something to note is that we caught quite a few nice perch while we were cast the Rooster Tails. Next time I am going to have some perch rigs along and keep a mess of them. I look forward to some great fishing this fall and winter at Rufus Woods. Even if you don’t get a big one, the action is fast and a ton of fun.
