The last bass tournament on Banks Lake too place a while back and the fishing for both largemouth and smallmouth bass was pretty good. It took over 25 pounds to win the tourney. It reminded me of the time I fished Banks Lake in the winter. A couple of guys from Chelan talked me into going out in the middle of December! I was a bit skeptical, but these guys seemed to know what they were doing. It was very cold out, spitting snow, but the fishing was hot! We filled the live well with 2- to 3-pound smallmouth. The method we used they called “stitching”. This meant to put a leech or a worm on the bottom in about 30 feet of water with just a split shot ahead of it. We would very slowly drag this across the bottom. Smallmouth aren’t very aggressive that time of year, and the bait would just get “heavy” when a fish would take it in. I was certainly surprised at the number of smallmouth we caught on a cold December day. It’s not something.
