If you have read my instructions on how to rig for bobbers and jigs for steelhead fishing, you know I highly recommend braided or super lines for the main line on your spinning reel. The reason I favor these lines is that they float, which makes it easy to mend your line when you’re drifting a bobber. The other reason is that they come in high visibility colors, which makes it easier to see your line in the flat light of winter. I have been using a new line this season and I am really pleased with it. It’s the new Stren Microfuse super line. The stuff casts like a dream, floats exceptionally high in the water, and is also highly visible. It actually glows a Hi-Vis fluorescent blue color and it is amazing how easy it is to see. The line is thermally fused, so it is very smooth, and has the same small diameter for line test that these super lines are known for. I have had some other people try the line, and these are folks that are very particular about their lines for bobber fishing for steelhead, and they are very excited about it. Look for it at your favorite sporting goods store and try a spool.
