I left a warm climate in Belize, but I left some hot steelhead fishing behind. From above Rocky Reach Dam to Bridgeport I am getting reports of great catches of steelhead, and some very big fish. I saw a photo of a steelhead that tipped the scales at 16.5 pounds, this was a hatchery fish, too! The fishing slowed down somewhat during the drawdown between Wells Dam and Chief Joseph Dam. When the water came back up the bite came back on. I am also getting some pretty good reports from anglers fishing the Methow River. Steelhead are being take further up the river now, as the water level has come way up with recent rains. I imagine that the steelhead anglers on the Okanogan are doing okay, I just haven’t heard lately. The word on Rufus Woods is that it hasn’t slowed down at all. Anglers are working harder for bigger fish, because there are so many smaller fish in the reservoir, but boy is fishing up there fun. On the fly fishing scene, Rocky Ford continues be provide excellent action. Fish it on the week days if possible.
