A friend of mine got a couple of steelhead on the Methow River with his fly rod last week. Both were wild and he released them. That’s very encouraging to hear. I am pretty sure the fishery on the Methow is a “first one to the hole in the morning” proposition. Just hearing about steelhead being taken, wild or not is exciting. I think I will wait until we get a little colder weather before I plan another steelhead trip to Wells Dam or Pateros with the boat. I looked back at what I was doing at this time last year and saw that I was making some trips to Brandts Landing on Rufus Woods Reservoir. I like to cast Power Bait or a shrimp and marshmallow combo from the shore here. You can usually tell if you are going to get fish or not in the first hour. I am hoping that some of the fish the Colville Tribe released into the reservoir are making it down to Brandts. We have caught some dandy triploids from the shore here in the month of November. It’s a great place to spend a winter morning.
