Potholes Reservoir can be great for walleye in the fall. It seems to be getting off to a slow start though. One day it’s very slow and the next better, but not great. I know it will turn on sometime this fall and early winter, and I want to be there when it does. I’ve had some great days walleye fishing when it’s chilly. What is most consistent on Potholes right now is the fishing for big bluegill and crappie. Every time I have been out on Potholes, I will see boats anchored and getting plenty of fish. What they are doing is locating one the many habitat boxes on the bottom, anchoring and casting to it. These habitat boxes are scattered throughout the reservoir and were placed to promote the survival of young crappie, bluegill and perch. Some of the biggest bluegill I have ever seen have come from Potholes, and crappie are abundant. You can catch some nice perch doing this, too. I am sure that the walleye fishing will turn on this fall and early winter on Potholes. In the meantime, you can have great time catching these other spiny rays.
