By Dave Graybill

Sometimes I just jump in my truck and head out without a rod or a boat in tow. I took a drive up to Fish Lake, knowing that this is the time of year to witness the change of season in all its glory. The fall colors are in full bloom and the lake is at its scenic height. It really is something to see. On my way home through Tumwater Canyon and passed at least six photographers that were capturing the foliage in the vibrant golds, reds and bronze that comes with fall. The next time I visit Fish Lake I will have my boat in tow. I have caught the biggest largemouth bass of the year in October on the lake. It is also a great time to be trolling flies. My wife and I have enjoyed many fall days just slowly making our way around the lake with our fly rods out and watching the tips twitch as trout nip at the flies and then the reels scream as one hooks up. We have done this clear into November. I have yet to get one, but this is the best time to catch the big brown trout on the lake, too.
