By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. If you've never had a loved one afflicted with Dementia, you're lucky. My Mom has Lewy Body Dementia and was just moved to a memory care facility last week. The unfocused terror in her eyes as she went through sundowners while I was there was crushingly helpless feeling. Nothing can cut through her confusion and what her brain is doing to her. Imagine her husband of 57-years standing by her side, my Dad. The only thing the doctors and nurses told me I could do was distract Dad and get him doing something he loves. So, Marion and I took her and our niece Carly out crabbing at Deception Pass. We launched from Coronet Bay Saturday afternoon just as the clouds broke and the sun shone brightly. A short ride in the Reinell around the corner to the east and we were dropping the first of our eight pots. But as we neared the next to last, the main engine overheated and I shut it down. Then the kicker motor didn't want to run. We beached it until the main motor cooled, picked the pots and headed home. At least I got him out on the water. Until next time, Good Fishing!
