By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. For those on our Facebook page, you see a picture from just three years ago of my Mom. She was reeling in a nice Kokanee on Lake Roosevelt just above the can line above Grand Coulee Dam. It's amazing what dementia can do in three years. Mom was hospitalized this week after a couple falls. She's OK but has been moved to a memory care facility. I'm not sure if she'll ever be going home again. Dementia and Alzheimer's have become the third leading death of Washingtonians. There is no cure. There's medication to try to combat the symptoms, but they really don't help much. I'd give anything to be able to get Mom out on the boat one more time, but that's not going to happen. She can no longer walk. She can no longer really focus to see. She has a hard time eating. And Dad has done an unbelievable super-human effort to take care of her all this time. Those of you who know me or read these reports or hear me on radio know I'm all about family. To me, fishing is about family too. So excuse me while I tend to my family. Until next time, Good Fishing!
