By Dave Graybill

After a couple of frustrating days on the water, I considered where I could go and pretty much guarantee to be busy catching fish. My brother in law Tom Verschueren loves catching bass and I failed to take him to Banks Lake to do just that last season. It had been years since I had been to Conconully Lake but remembered that it is loaded with bass. It’s a drive but Tom is always ready for one of my fishing adventures, so off we went. We got off to a great start, too, pulling several largemouth from the docks along the shore. Then the wind came up and I drove the Kingfisher to the very end of the lake and started working the shores down there. It was great. We got fish on Tom’s favorite watermelon Senko, the one with with black and red flakes, and I even got some on a topwater lure. The wind got stronger and stronger, but I was able to keep the boat positioned close enough to shore to place our casts right against it. We kept track of the number of fish we landed and released and when we headed for the dock the total was 66. What fun!
