Good news for fans of spring salmon fishing on the Yakima River. Three sections of the river are opening on May 18th until further notice. The following rules apply to each of the three sections that will be open to fishing. The daily limit will be two hatchery Chinook and wild fish must be released immediately. Terminal gear rules include the use of up to two single point barbless hooks with a hook gap from point to shank of ¾ inch or less. The use of bait is allowed. A Columbia River Salmon and Steelhead Endorsement is required to participate in this fishery. The use of two poles is permitted during this fishery provided the angler has the Two Pole Endorsement.
