Eric Granstrom’ s Facebook post on the FishingMagician.com Page, showing a short video of a day of steelhead fishing on the Wenatchee River, brought back great memories. I miss steelhead fishing on Columbia, Methow and Okanogan terribly. It is almost a physical pain. Back trolling or casting bobbers and jigs at Bridgeport was my wife’s favorite of all the different types of fishing we have done. We spent many days catching steelhead in all kinds of weather. She would get so excited when she hooked a fish. I loved it. One day, while bobber and jig fishing at Bridgeport, we hooked a double. She tucked her rod under her arm and captured me fighting a jumping steelhead. After I netted my fish, she landed hers. It was twice as big as mine! I also have great memories of fishing near Pateros with Shane Magnuson. We fished in snow storms and freezing temperatures and some days had whole stretches of river to ourselves. I also remember back trolling plugs with Eric below Wells Dam. He hooked and landed a steelhead on the brand new rod and reel that I think his father had given him. It may have been his first steelhead ever. His grin was bigger than the fish. I will post a couple of photos of steelhead caught in the past. We got some big ones up here. I hope to see the day when we can fish for them again.
