For several years my wife Eileen and I would spend a day over the 4th of July Weekend fishing at Evergreen Reservoir. It wasn’t far to travel and wasn’t crowded on this busy holiday. We had our best day ever catching big largemouth bass one weekend. We have caught many quality smallmouth and once I even caught a 34-inch tigermuskie. I met Tom Verschueren and Jerry Day at Evergreen last Saturday, after spending the morning at Chelan Falls with Shane Magnuson and his crew. I had a 15-pound king in the cooler and now I was going to see if I could catch a bunch of bass. What we caught was a bunch of was very small perch. The population of yellow perch has exploded at Evergreen and they were pecking at our baits constantly. We still caught smallmouth, though. Jerry caught many nice smallmouth on the watermelon with red flake Senko. He also caught a largemouth, a sunfish and even a walleye on this rig. We still had a blast at Evergreen, and we all hope that the perch that are mostly 3 or 4 inches right now are keeping size by next year.
