By Dave Graybill

I made another trip to Lake Roosevelt last Friday. I fished from the bank at Spring Canyon a couple of weeks ago, and had good success. This time Rollie Schmitten and I joined Mike McKee and Jim Moser on Austin Moser’s boat. We launched at Spring Canyon and ran up lake to an area that had been very productive for Moser last winter. The fish hadn’t found these hot spots yet, and although we got a couple of fish, we did much better later in the day. We gradually trolled down toward the dam, using six side planers and different plugs and flies. When we got right into Crescent Bay we had much better action. We picked up at least one fish every pass through here. The flies were still working and we also got rainbow on Kokabow blades and spinners. We didn’t get any kokanee, which wasn’t a surprise. The rainbow we got were from 14 to 19 inches, and we released just one red band rainbow. This was Austin’s first trip to Roosevelt. He was planning to fish out of Keller the following day and I am eager to find how he did fishing in that area of Lake Roosevelt.
