You may remember that the Colville Tribe launched a program that gave anglers a reward for turning in heads of northern pike caught in Lake Roosevelt. The program was very successful, and just over $10,000.00 has been paid out. Anglers have turned in 1,095 pike heads and six anglers reached the maximum payout of $590.00 this year. The Northern Pike Rewards Program will be continued, beginning January 1st through December 31st in 2018. “We want anglers to be part of the solution to protect the Lake Roosevelt ecosystem,” said Holly McLellan, fisheries biologist for the Colville Fish and Wildlife Department. The 2017 program has been successful with anglers turning in a significant number of fish.” Anglers can go to www.cct-fnw.com/news/ to get the full program details. Participants will receive $10.00 for each pike head turned in. Anglers may also remember that a white sturgeon fishery opened on Lake Roosevelt in May of last year. It is likely that this season will open again sometime next year. It seems that there are more and more opportunities for anglers at Lake Roosevelt. I hope to try both the pike and sturgeon fishing next year.
