By Dave Graybill

You may recall that Tom Verschueren and I tried the bank fishing for rainbow at Lake Roosevelt a couple of weeks ago. I learned that he had gone back to the same spot, which was near the swimming area at Spring Canyon, a week later. He said he spent about an hour and landed five rainbow. Most of the fish were about 12 inches, but he got one that he measured that was 18 inches. He had gone to Hooked on Toys and bought a jar of shrimp, like we used the first time we went up there, and he got some marshmallows at a grocery store. This indicates that it is still very much worth the trip to Spring Canyon to fish for rainbow. When I was at Lake Roosevelt last Saturday I noticed that the lake level is still high. While we were trolling along the shore I watched an angler land a nice rainbow in the area of Geezers Beach, which is on the opposite shore from Spring Canyon. I would recommend that if you want to fish on that side of the dam that you get a Colville Tribal license. There is some confusion as to whether this is on tribal land or not, but just to be safe I always get the tribal permit.
