By Dave Graybill

The sockeye season is open now on Lake Wenatchee, and with a six-fish limit it will draw even more attention. It appears that the high winds won’t be as much as an issue as I first thought, but anglers should be aware that this lake is often plagued by more than a stiff breeze. It is advised to do a weather check before planning to fish here. I wanted to let people know that there are some rehabs planned for some of the lakes in our region. There is a public meeting to be held at the Public Works Building in Ephrata on Monday, July 25th from 6 to 8 p.m. Park, Blue, Vic Meyers and Mirror lakes in Grant County are on the list for rotenone treatment. People that have fished these lakes this season have probably noticed that there is a shortage of sizeable juvenile rainbow and brown trout. This is a result of the overpopulation of spiny ray species, particularly smallmouth bass and yellow perch. These are some of the most popular trout lakes in the state and have been managed for a quality trout fishing experience for decades. The rehab will bring them back to their former status.
