I have had the best walleye fishing I have ever had at Banks Lake this year, and I wanted to give it another try. I wanted to see if the crank bait bite was still good mid lake, so I called my fishing buddy Brian Nielson and had him meet me at Big Wally’s last Saturday. We ran the crank baits out near Rose Bush and started trolling them down lake, and they weren’t out long before one of his rods went off. This fish fought hard and when we got it to the boat saw that it was a big smallmouth, and I mean big. Check out my Facebook Page to see just how big. We only got one small walleye here so moved up the lake. We tried a couple of spots but had the best fishing at Barker Flats. Fishing in about 25 to 30 feet of water with Macks Lure Spin Drift Slow Death hook rigs we got a bunch of those 13- to 14-inch walleye. I got one on a gold bladed worm harness that was 24 inches long. Fishing for walleye is still worth a try at Banks Lake.
