The Wells Pool behind Wells Dam has been drawn down significantly, and the water will remain low for the month of September. The boat launch at the City RV Park and Marina is high and dry, but the new launch just down stream is in service. This launch, that was just completed earlier this year, has flush toilets and a huge parking area. The down stream side of the two sided ramp with a dock is the one to use. I did just that last Friday when I took three generations of the Hawkins family fishing. Grandpa Buell, son Brad and grandson Luke and I tried our luck for late summer runs. In spite of the low water and not finding fish where I found them just a week earlier, we had some fun. Six fish were hooked and we got two to the net. The object of the fishing trip was to get Luke his first Chinook salmon and that was accomplished. The eight-year-old muscled a nice summer-run to the net, and he was happy to let the wild fish go. I will be making one more trip to the Bridgeport area and then will be shifting my salmon fishing efforts down to the Hanford Reach.
