By Dave Graybill

Fall kings are really pouring up the Columbia River now. There are over 40,000 a day going over Bonneville Dam, and over 16,000 passed over McNary the other day. The Columbia River Gorge is crowded with anglers fishing areas like off the mouth of the Deschutes River and the Klickitat River and they will be populating the Hanford Reach by the thousands very soon. Sporting Goods stores, like Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee, are going through Super Baits and Mag Lip Flatfish like crazy. The parking lot at White Bluffs will be packed very soon, and the one at Vernita will look like a small town with all the RVs parked there. I have seen license plates from Idaho, Montana and even as far way as Arizona on the RVs here. There aren’t many places on the whole west coast that offers salmon fishing like we have here in the Hanford Reach. If you haven’t fished the fast water in this stretch of the Columbia, you may want to go with a guide on your first trip. You’ll not only learn about the hazards but you will learn what they use and where to fish in this area of the river.
