You should be seeing an official announcement soon on the opening of the spring salmon season on both the Icicle and the Wenatchee rivers. There is a very strong return of springers this season with abundant numbers of hatchery fish to be taken. What is anticipated in the official news release is a May 23rd through July 31st season on both rivers, and a limit of two hatchery fish per day. There will be no gear restrictions on the Icicle fishery. The Wenatchee River spring salmon fishery will be under selective gear rules, except that bait is allowed, similar to the steelhead seasons on the main stem Columbia River. If you have been watching the dam counts, there should be substantial numbers of spring salmon already in the Wenatchee and Icicle rivers, and the run should have a large number of four-year-old fish and some five year olds, which means some very big fish available to anglers. This coming weekend is the Memorial holiday weekend and there will be thousands of people headed to Eastern Washington to enjoy our abundance of outdoor recreation. Be sure to get your reservation for camping at your favorite destination as early as possible and plan to have a lot of company.
