By Dave Graybill

People are out chasing trout, walleye and bass throughout the region, and for good reason. Spring fishing for all of these species has been great. There are a couple of other fisheries that are real gems, but often overlooked. I got a couple of photos of some giant sturgeon from my friend Austin Moser. He is known for salmon fishing in the region, but he likes to do the sturgeon thing in the spring down below Rock Island Dam on the Columbia. This is a catch and release fishery and few participate in it. The result is that those who are geared up for it do very well. I am planning to do a shoot with Moser for one of Fishing TV Shows. I will let you know when it gets posted. Another buddy sent me a photo of a cutthroat he caught off the shore at Omak Lake. This is where the state record cutthroat came from. It weighed over 18 pounds! Omak Lake is on the Colville Reservation, and a tribal license is required to fish it. I featured the lake in one of my Fishing TV Shows a couple of years ago. Go to the archives and check it out.
